AGM Report

The playgrounds committee was established in response to requests from the community for increased provision of play spaces in the southern part of Lake Hawea and in Hāwea Flat.

The community have been consulted via a survey which was available both online and was delivered to letterboxes in paper form.  There were 131 responses to the survey - primarily from families, giving clear support for the development of play spaces at both Long Grass Place (Hawea Flat) and Sentinel Park (Lake Hawea).  There were also 2 letters of concern received one in relation to each of the sites.  The committee have sought to engage with each of these parties in order to take on board their concerns.   The survey responses are now guiding the committee in the development of a project brief which will then be used in the development of a landscape plan by our landscape architects.   Further information including details of survey results can be found here: www.haweacommunity.nz/playground-development-committee

At this stage fundraising is ongoing with $40000 provided by QLDC and $15000 donated by the Watson Family Trust to the HCA earmarked for the development of playgrounds.  The Watson Family Trust have further indicated their desire to further support the project.  There has been an application to the Contact Epic Community Fund via the HCA for further funds and it is planned to seek grants from various community trusts once plans are drawn up and costs become clearer.  The current efforts to establish a formal Hawea Community Trust will assist in the application for these.
