Can you lead the Hāwea Community Association into 2022?


Could you be our next Chairperson?

This is a key leadership role which will enable you to both demonstrate and hone your leadership skills, whilst enabling you to do a great service for our community. Our former Chairperson is staying on as a committee member, and our former Secretary is staying on as a member of the Comms team. This means you will have a great deal of support to enable you to transition into the role.

Our ideal Chairperson:

  • High level of interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, able to assert oneself confidently and tactfully

  • Demonstrated administrative skills

  • Demonstrated organisational skills with a systematic and methodical approach

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under fluctuating levels of pressure

  • People skills that show a good working relationship in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Working knowledge of Email, Google Drive, Google Docs will be advantageous.

  • Community Organisations and Representatives

  • Local Service Providers

Overall objective of the Hāwea Community Association:

The HCA committee works hard to uphold community interests by:

  • Promoting the wellbeing and sustainable development of the Hāwea district.

  • Actively foster values and actions consistent with a cohesive, nurturing community.

  • Working towards safeguarding the interests of residents and ratepayers.

  • Representing members in dealing with national and local authorities, corporations, companies, organisations and individuals.

  • Improving and beautifying the environs of Hāwea.

Expected hours per month:

  • 30-40 hours per month

Chairperson duties:

  • Provide leadership to the Executive Committee

  • Involve all Exec Committee members in the Committee’s work and ensure they contribute to debate and decisions and, that all points of view are considered.

  • Keep the committee focused on its key tasks and responsibilities.

  • Oversee the induction and development of committee members.

  • Leading strategic planning.

  • Ensuring that relationships within the organisation are properly managed.

Governance:

  • Ensure proper information is provided to committee members.

  • Plan committee meetings (working with the Secretary to determine the agenda etc.)

  • Conduct meetings efficiently, with adherence to due process.

  • Ensure that meetings and decisions are accurately recorded.

  • Understand the committee’s finances (working with the Treasurer)

Communication:

  • Provide clear monthly reports of events and meetings for the Executive Committee meetings.

  • Ensure correspondence is followed up

  • Agree external comms with the committee and the Comms team to ensure the communications strategy is clear both internally and externally.

  • Review governance of the Comms team and website.

  • Liaise with external comms and media (journalists/newspapers)

Representation:

  • Provide representation for the community at Stakeholder workshops based on the current community mandate.

  • Ensure the interests of the Hawea Community are consistently highlighted and follow up on promised outcomes from the relevant authority.

  • Maintain relationships with relevant elected representatives and other relevant community groups around the district.

  • Protect the HCA Brand in line with the overall objectives listed above.


Could you be our next Vice Chair?

This is also a key leadership position and will enable you to work closely with the new Chairperson gaining / demonstrating interpersonal, leadership and administrative skills while doing a great service for our community.

Our Ideal Vice Chairperson:

  • High level of interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, able to assert oneself confidently and tactfully

  • Demonstrated administrative skills

  • Demonstrated organisational skills with a systematic and methodical approach

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under fluctuating levels of pressure

  • People skills that show a good working relationship in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Working knowledge of Email, Google Drive, Google Docs will be advantageous.

Vice Chairperson Duties:

  • Assist the Chairperson with leadership by assisting with the activities of the community board within its specific terms of reference and delegated authorities.

  • Provide support with the Chairperson's guidance and direction.

  • Help ensure that relationships within the organisation are properly managed.

Governance:

  • Provide assistance to ensure proper information is provided for committee members.

  • In the absence of the Chairperson, conduct meetings efficiently, with adherence to due process.

Communication:

  • Provide clear monthly reports of events and meetings for the Executive Committee meetings.

  • Ensure correspondence is followed up

  • Agree external comms with the committee and the Comms team to ensure the communications strategy is clear both internally and externally.

Representation:
