Update - 11th October:

It would be really helpful to the Greenwaste team if people bring exact change when they come to use the Greenwaste. Thanks for your understanding.

Update - 6 October:

Good news for our community of gardeners. We are now able to pick up keys from Hāwea Store and Kitchen to deposit our greenwaste material. Please return the keys promptly. (Ops Team will let the community know when mulch is available). Modest increases for utes and trailers will occur on Nov 1st.

Update - 27 September:

From now onwards during Level 2, the Greenwaste Centre will be open each Saturday 1pm to 3pm as usual and manned by volunteers.

We strongly encourage you to wear a mask when bringing your green waste to the centre. As microbiologist Dr Siouxsie Wiles says, “for the good of everybody, wearing a mask when you're out of your home is a good idea.” Our volunteers will be wearing them.

We will ensure correct social distancing is maintained. Please use the NZ COVID Tracer app at the gate if you can (this helps with rapid contact tracing if it is required). If you can't use the Tracer app our volunteers will record your details manually. These will be kept securely.

Please bring correct change to avoid too much handling of cash - our fees are listed here. Mulch is available for you to load into your own trailer, but the quality is not what we normally have. We are in contact with the mulch operator and QLDC re. our concerns, this is a work in progress.

Until we have clarification from QLDC, the keys for the Greenwaste Centre will not be available from the Hāwea Store and Kitchen.

We appreciate your help in looking after our community.

Update - 2 September:

The Hāwea Greenwaste Centre will remain closed during Alert Level 3. We will re-evaluate opening once the announcement for Alert Level 2 is made by the Government on Monday 6th September, as we want to ensure we are meeting any upgraded or changed Alert Level 2 rules.

We imagine the community has enjoyed this beautiful weather and time at home to have a good garden tidy-up, and we’re anticipating it will be a busy time once we can re-open. We’ll be sure to keep the community informed as soon as we know when that will be.

Thank you for your patience,

The Greenwaste Operations Team
