Lake Hāwea Erosion Management Plan & Lake Margins Management Plan re-assessed

In compliance with conditions 10 and 12 of Resource Consent Hawea Water Permit to Dam 2001.383, the Lake Hāwea Lake Margins Management Plan and Lake Hāwea Erosion Management Plan were reassessed.

HCA has been asked to review the documents (see above links) and provide comments.  After review by HCA, Queenstown Lakes District Council,  and the Crown, the document shall be submitted to Otago Regional Council.

Major portions of the documents remain unchanged from the previous version.  Modification to the Lake Margins Management Plan includes individual survey profiles to be resurveyed ‘on request’ after an erosion event of if inspection observations suggest concern.  This varies from the prescribed frequency of every three years in the previous plan.  Note, a survey of Flora Dora Parade is scheduled for this year.

Modifications to the Erosion Management Plan include: (1) an additional Specific Assessment site has been added along the Lake Hāwea Holiday Park shoreline and (2) high lake levels in December 2019 and February 2020 reactivated some areas of shoreline erosion, details on inspections and remedial actions in the report.
